Tree plays a vital role in keeping balance in the natural ecosystem. It decorates the nature with scenic beauty. It gives us fruit, shade and shelter. We cannot imagine a place without a tree. Importance: Tree inhales carbon-dioxide and exhales oxygen. We exhale carbon dioxide and inhale oxygen. So trees act in keeping the proportions of gases in air in a balanced condition. Trees emit vapours and thus keep the atmosphere moist. A huge number of tree at a place plays a vital role in keeping the rainfall frequent, the green colour of the leaves is also comfortable for our eyes. So from the viewpoint of the environment, trees are very important to us.
In the past, there were plenty of trees and forests, but with the growth of population, these trees were chopped and very few people cared to plant new trees, so our country is now at a deficit in necessary timber. Our people must be convinced of the need for planting trees. Every year “Tree Planting week” is held and a few trees are planted in towns. This is not sufficient for the need for timber for millions.
June and July are the proper time for planting trees. Planting week must not be observed in towns only. In the village, a tree will be planted by every family. Trees will be planted on the banks of ponds on both sides of highways, on the banks of dams, by the side of rail lines. More planting of trees will not do only. They are to be taken care of by giving fences, pulling out weeds, using fertilizer’ and by watering them when necessary.
People must realize that trees provide them with vitamins by supplying fruits. In the village, we see very few mango trees, coconut tree, a blackberry tree, guava tree etc. Trees supply us furniture and fuel. They save our houses from the cyclone and give shade from the scorching heat of the sun.
The tree will solve the food problem to some extent. This will reduce the pressure on rice; Seasonal fruits from trees will provide people with vitamins and help people to get healthy. If each and every member of the community understand the protection of trees and take active measures for planting and protecting them, we can hope that our country will be self-sufficient in wood.
